DIYFLY DETROIT Offers Two DIY Workshops July 29 & 30

Do you love DIY home decor projects? I know I’m always searching Pinterest for tutorials on how to refurbish furniture or DIY home decor for my home. If you’d love to learn how to make a furniture piece for your home, then you need to register for the DIYFLY DETROIT 2-day workshop! And don’t worry if you are completely clueless as to how to build furniture. Rosa of 7th Period Shoppe will teach you how to build even if you’re a beginner! Read more about Rosa, the instructor of DIYFLY DETROIT, and her exciting, upcoming event.

Who says a girl can’t build things? Rosa, a self-taught carpenter, strives hard to empower women to learn more about carpentry and how to “confidently and successfully build some great sh*t”, as she says on her website. “I always want women to feel encouraged and empowered when leaving my workshop,” Rosa says. “Feel full of: I did that! An exorbitant amount of pride, a high, if you will. Having success in something you ordinarily wouldn’t have even tried.”

#DIYFLYDETROIT Home Decor Workshop July 29 & 30

The Brooklyn-based carpenter and furniture business owner is hosting a DIY home decor workshop inΒ Detroit July 29th and 30th. DIYFLY DETROIT, sponsored by Live Cycle Delight, is a beginner-friendly workshop where students will learn how to make a rustic full-length standing mirror and an entryway bench. Rosa specifically selected both pieces of furniture “because they’re pieces that are classic additions to your home space.”

“I don’t have a real specific reason as to why I love carpentry. It’s the same feeling you get when you truly love anything or anyone. It’s an inexplicable wholeness and comfort that just comes with doing and being.” Rosa, 7th Period Shoppe

Passionate for Carpentry and DIY Projects

The nurse turned carpenter is very passionate about carpentry and DIY projects. Rosa has been a carpenter for two years now and taught herself carpentry by watching YouTube channels and exploring carpentry through Pinterest and other online media. “Carpentry is something I think that was meant for me because there is such ease that comes with learning the many different aspects of woodworking.”

When I asked Rosa why does she loveΒ carpentry, she said, “I don’t have a real specific reason as to why I love carpentry. It’s the same feeling you get when you truly love anything or anyone. It’s an inexplicable wholeness and comfort that just comes with doing and being.”

But Rosa never intended to build furniture. She says, “I started out exclusively refurbishing things and suddenly people were asking me to build particular pieces.” The next thing she knew, Rosa said her “business did almost an 180” and she started focusing more on buildingΒ furniture pieces instead of refurbishing them.

7th Period Shoppe Empowering Women

Rosa enjoys teaching women carpentry skills and DIY home decor projects.Β “I offer classes that people can come to and create sustainable pieces and not just knick-knacks that ultimately feel like clutter and junk.”

“Overall, what I want women to take away from this class (DIYFLY DETROIT) greater than how to use a drill.” She wants women to believe in themselves and try something new. “Be willing to try. Be willing to fail. Be willing to succeed!”
