On Sunday, January 29, 2017, I attended the Emergency Hamtramck Protest: We Stand in Solidarity with Muslims (#NoBanNoWall) to show my support for my Muslim neighbors and citizens of this country. The event was a peaceful protest and I also brought along Michala (my oldest daughter).

Despite the cold weather, it was a good turn out. The protest was held in front of the Hamtramck City Hall. Hamtramck is a small city that borders Detroit. We like to visit the city to attend the annual Labor Day Festival and other music events. Hamtramck is also known as a sanctuary city.

I took quite a few photographs at the event so today’s post is primarily focusing on the images I captured. Click here if you’d like to learn more about the City of Hamtramck.

Many protests were held throughout the country. U.S. cities like Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. A protest was also held at the Detroit Airport on the same day as the Hamtramck protest.

This was Michala’s first time attending a protest so she didn’t really know what to expect. She was amazed at how many people came out to support the Muslim community. She told me she felt it was a very valuable learning experience for her. She said she also felt inspired to show her support for Muslims.

I’m glad I brought my daughter with me because I wanted to show her how people from all cultures can come together and support one another. I’ve always raised my children to love and respect all people no matter their culture, race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.
