Hey, Detroit friends! Are you ready for the weekend? Now that spring is here, there are so many events available throughout Detroit and the metro area! I always love this time of year because there is so much to do. I honestly don’t see how anyone can say they’re bored in the spring and summer when there are a plethora of events to choose from in the warmer season. 🙂
I did some research and found a few family-friendly events happening this weekend. It’s going to be hard to choose just one, but it’s always nice to have options, right? The weather is supposed to be scattered showers throughout Saturday and rain on Sunday. Let’s hope for nicer weather!
Motor City Comic Con 2017 | May 19 – 21 | Novi, MI
Great event for comic book and movie enthusiasts! The event will be Friday through Saturday at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Celebrity guests are scheduled to be at the comic convention, such as Anthony Michael Hall (Weird Science!, Sixteen Candles, The Dark Knight), Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Higher Learning), and Dennis Rodman (professional basketball player). Cosplay contests, Q&A panel, and more are highlights of Motor City Comic Con. There will also be a kids’ cosplay contest!

Spring Into Corktown | Saturday, May 20 | Corktown, Detroit
Of course, there’s the Spring Into Corktown event which celebrates spring and the Detroit community. Spring Into Corktown is scheduled for Saturday, May 20th, starting with Motor City Makeover at 9 a.m. Help beautify Corktown with Motor City Makeover. Don’t miss the unveiling of the Nordin Brothers’ new art object. Take a free fitness class with True Body Fitness or take a free yoga class with Citizen Yoga. Shop, dine and tour Corktown. Bring the kids for carnival games, crafts, and more family-friendly entertainment!

Motivated Moms Tour | Saturday, May 20 | Detroit, MI
Detroit is the first stop for this empowering event for moms. Motivated Moms Tour will feature six event panelists who will discuss a variety of topics geared for moms from all walks of life.
According to Motivated Mom’s official website, “the Motivated Moms Tour- Super Mom Edition is designed to equip moms to be “Great Women and Extraordinary Moms” by offering life-changing content to help activate their dreams. The entrepreneur mom, working mom, stay-at-home mom, or aspiring mom representing different socioeconomic backgrounds, education, and cultures will gather together to participate in an empowering #MotivatedMom Empowerment Panel discussion over lunch.”

Detroit Touch-A-Truck | Saturday, May 20 | Detroit, MI
This family-friendly event gives children the opportunity to explore large vehicles such as public safety, construction, transportation, and other vehicles from various industries. According to the event’s facebook page, “children will be allowed to get behind the wheel of these vehicles and meet the people who help to build, protect, beautify and serve our community. Crafts, and games will also be part of the day’s entertainment.”

Flower Day 2017 | Sunday, May 21 | Eastern Market, Detroit
Since 1967, Eastern Market has hosted an annual Flower Day. Every year Flower Day is held the Sunday after Mother’s Day. Many people across the city come to Flower Day to select beautiful flowers. Eastern Market’s official website recommends you arrive early to find the best flower selection.
