The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit kicks off 2017 Red Kettle Campaign
with Motown Recording Artist, KEM
Hi, Detroit Friends! Are you going to the 2017 Detroit Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Campus Martius Park? My family and I plan on attending the event and I am SO excited about it. I am definitely feeling the holiday spirit this year. What about you?
On Friday, November 17th, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit will officially kick off its 2017 Red Kettle campaign with help from a very special guest! Are you ready for this? KEM!
Grammy-nominated Motown recording artist and Detroit native, KEM, will give a special performance during the nonprofit’s Red Kettle program. KEM will perform onstage at Campus Martius Park.
World’s Tallest Red Kettle
During the program, The Salvation Army will light the world’s tallest red kettle! The red kettle is approximately 56 feet tall and 24 feet wide and lit by 26,000 new, sparkly red LED lights. It will remain aglow for the remainder of the holiday season.
A large digital LED board will accompany the giant red kettle, displaying messages as well as The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s progress toward its $7.85 million goal throughout the Red Kettle Campaign.

Following the live concert for the ice rink opening, Detroit’s Channel 955 will play a live music mix from 10 p.m. to midnight.
The Salvation Army will also have a Family Fun Tent— perfect for families, like mine, who have little ones and can’t be out in the cold too long. I plan on bringing my whole family including the baby.
Hope to see you there!
