Exploring Detroit with a Camera in My Hand
I first started exploring the Detroit and Metro area to find my way around and to learn more about our new home. I loved everything I was experiencing that I had to document it somehow.
In August 2015, I purchased my first Nikon DSLR camera and started photographing the city life and my family’s experiences. A year later, I decided to start blogging about it.
Passionate About Street Photography
After a few months of exploring the city, I soon realized I really loved street photography. I love street photography because I like capturing candid moments. Those “candid moments” I see are more authentic to me because I am locking in a real action or emotion.
I’m not an “in-your-face” type of street photographer. That’s just not my style. I only enter a space if it feels welcoming. Granted, sometimes a person may not realize I snapped a photo of him/her, but even then, I still only approach them if the moment feels inviting.
I started my street photography journey by reading books and watching videos about street photography. I also joined photography workshops and photo walks in Detroit to help me with my photography.
And the number one way I worked on my photography (and still do to this day) is practice, Practice, PRACTICE!
I still enjoy learning from other street photographers and viewing other’s work. It inspires me as a photographer and challenges me to continue pursuing my passion of photography.
Color Photography VS Black & White Photography
If you’re familiar with street photography, then you may notice many photographers feature their work in black and white. I think black and white photographs are beautiful and can be very compelling. Black and white photography tells a different story from a color photography. Yet, I prefer to edit my photographs in color.
I am attracted to color, especially in the city. I love the diverse culture, city lights, and beautiful murals in Detroit. I feel like if I converted my photographs to black and white, then you wouldn’t see the beautiful colors in the city art or the life of the city. In my opinion, the colors in my photographs bring the city to life.
Photography Featured on Good Life Detroit
I like to feature my photography on Good Life Detroit. I also like to share my photographs on my Instagram account. You can follow me on Instagram here.
Every time I pick up my camera, I am always learning something new about my art and photography. I take my Nikon DSLR with me just about everywhere I go. If I’m not photographing my family, then I am taking pictures of life around me. I just don’t want to miss out on a photo moment!
I am enjoying my photography journey and I am excited to continue growing as a photographer!
