Hi, friends! Are you ready for another summer weekend of fun? I found eight events happening in Detroit/Metro Detroit that are sure to make for another enjoyable weekend. Love creating art? Check out the Create, Learn, Inspire event hosted by Lincoln Street Art Park and In Art I Trust or Pewabic’s three-day house and garden show.

If you’re a big antique and vintage lover like I am, there are three flea/vintage markets featuring antique and vintage pieces for sale. And let’s not forget Detroit’s celebration of The Queen of Soul. Aretha Franklin will be at the Detroit Music Weekend this Saturday! Check out this week’s favorite picks for weekend events happening in our city. Have a great weekend, friends!

Inside|Out USA Instameet | Friday, June 9 | Free Admission | Lafayette Park Neighborhood, Detroit

The second annual Inside|Out USA Photo Contest will hold an Instameet on Friday, June 9th in Detroit’s Lafayette Park Neighborhood. The event will begin with a 60-minute walking tour of the Inside|Out reproductions in the area. Writer and “Detroitist” Marsha Music, winner of the 2012 Kresge Literary Arts Fellowship, will give an overview of the history of the Lafayette Park neighborhood.

Dante Stella, longtime Lafayette Park resident, local historian, and architectural photographer will also be at the Instameet. Stella will identify architectural elements of buildings designed by famed modernist Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. A DIA guide will discuss the Inside|Out works.

After the walking tour, guests can receive discounts on food and drinks at select businesses in the nearby Eastern Market area. See the official Facebook event page below for more details.

Create, Learn, Inspire | Sunday, June 11 | Free | Lincoln Street Art Park

If you and your family love to create art, then Create, Learn, Inspire is an event you don’t want to miss! Presented by Lincoln Street Art Park and In Art I Trust, the Create, Learn, Inspire art event gives guests an opportunity to create art with others and learn from artists. All art experience levels are welcome to the art event, including children. (Children must be supervised by an adult.)

Bring your own canvas, creative tools, and paint. “The only rule at Create, Learn, Inspire, is: that if IT’S NOT YOURS DONT PAINT IT.” See the In Art I Trust’s official Facebook event page for more details on the event and what types of canvases, creative tools and paint are recommended for Create, Learn, Inspire.

Shed 5 Flea Antique & Vintage Market | Sunday, June 11 |  Free Admission | Eastern Market, Detroit

Mercantile Fairs hosts the Shed 5 Flea Antique & Vintage Market at Detroit’s Eastern Market on Sunday, June 11th. This will be the first market date in the three-date summer market series. The next dates for the antique and vintage market are July 9th and August 13th.

The antique and vintage market will be another great place for you to find a great gift for Dad for Father’s Day or just find cute and stylish items to decorate your home for the summer! Guests can expect to find architectural salvage and craft and vintage goods. Admission is free for this event, and there are also many free parking lots located in and around Eastern Market.

The Vintage Market Presents: Down on the Farm! | June 10 – 11 | $5 Admission, Kids 12 & Under Free | Monroe County Fairgrounds, Monroe, Michigan

If you’re a lover of everything vintage, then the Vintage Market in Monroe, Michigan is the market for you! This two-day market event is a vintage inspired, flea market style, upscale shopping experience. The Vintage Market will feature an estimate of 300 vendors– local artisans, local shops, and small businesses. Guests can expect to see antiques, furniture, home, decor, bohemian goods, rusty treasures, garden decor, and more. A farmers market area will also be available at the vintage market.

A beer stand, food trucks, and live music will also be at The Vintage Market. Admission is $5 for adults and children age 12 and under are free. If you need help moving your furniture or large purchases to your vehicle, there will be furniture porters on-site to take your items to the market’s furniture pickup area. Detroit Music Weekend – Free Day Public Concerts featuring Aretha Franklin | Saturday, June 10 | Free Admission | 350 Madison Avenue, Detroit

Saturday, June 10th will be the Free Day of Public Concerts at the Detroit Music Weekend featuring the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin at 6:00 p.m.! Detroit Music Weekend will also feature ticketed events Friday through Sunday. Visit their official website to see the schedule of events and which concerts are free and ticketed.

The outdoor stages will be located in the Downtown Entertainment District between Music Hall and the Detroit Opera House and in Paradise Valley. Over 300 artists are scheduled to perform across four stages at the Detroit Music Weekend.

Ponyride Market Summer Series | Saturday, June 10 | Free Admission | 1401 Vermont St., Detroit

Just in time for Father’s Day, the Ponyride is featuring a summer market series! If you’re still looking for a special gift to get for Dad, then try the Ponyride summer market to snag a few unique items.

The Ponyride’s summer market began in May and will last until October. There will be a modern flea market featuring “a rotating cast of vendors” with handmade, salvage, and vintage goods. Artisan food and drinks will also be available at the summer market.

Pewabic House & Garden Show | June 9 – 11 | Free & Open to Public | 10125 E. Jefferson Avenue, Detroit

Pewabic is hosting a free family-friendly house and garden show. The event is open to the public beginning Friday, June 9th and ending on Sunday, June 11th. The house and garden show will feature ceramic work from over 80 artists, free docent-led tours, demonstrations by Pewabic artisans, and a Biergarten.

Pewabic will also release their latest Postcards from Detroit tile the Guardian Building. It is the third tile in the series to commemorate favorite Detroit destinations. The first two tiles in the series are Belle Isle and Eastern Market.

Historic Indian Village Home & Garden Tour | June 10 – 11 | $25 | Indian Village Historic District

The Historic Indian Village District presents their annual home and garden tour. This year, the tour will feature six arts and crafts homes built between 1914 and 1917. Guests can enjoy viewing an art lot, antique cars, churches, and gardens.

The Historic Indian Village Home & Garden Tour is the second largest home tour in Michigan. This year marks the 44th year of the home and garden tour. The Indian Village Historic District includes Burns, Iroquois, and Seminole Avenues from East Jefferson running one mile north to Mack Avenue. It includes more than 350 homes, with most averaging about 100 years old.
