It’s Children’s Book Week (April 30 – May 6) this week and we’re excited to take part in the festivities! The kids and I are BIG readers and we love visiting our local library and the Detroit Public Library. For us, celebrating Children’s Book Week is just another great reason to share our love for books and reading.
If you’ve never heard of Children’s Book Week, you are in for a wonderful treat! There will be many bookstores, libraries, and schools across the country celebrating their love for books.
The literary celebration was first launched in 1919 to celebrate books for young people and the joy of reading. This year marks Children’s Book Week’s 99th year! It is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country.
There will be author readings, story times, and other special activities right here in Metro Detroit. Here are a few events I found online.
Southfield Public Library will host Storytime & Craft on May 2 at 7 p.m.
The Detroit Public Library is dedicating May 1 – 9 to celebrate Children’s Book Week.
