On Sunday, May 7, 2017, my husband and I attended the Cinco de Mayo Detroit parade in Mexicantown. We’ve only been to Mexicantown twiceβ€” both times to eat out at two different restaurants.

I googled the location for the parade, but it turned out we didn’t need Google Maps to find it because as we drove through Southwest Detroit, we saw cars with the flag of Mexico attached to the side of their vehicles. We followed the crowd and it led us straight to Vernor Street, the route for the Cinco de Mayo Detroit parade.

It was a perfect day for a parade, too. The weather was sunny and not too chilly out. Parking was easy to find, and people were friendly and smiled to one another.

Favorite Cinco de Mayo Detroit Parade Sightings

I was happy to see Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan participate in the parade. I have never seen him in person before, and I thought it was very nice of him to show his support for Mexican-Americans and Mexican culture.

The kids enjoyed collecting candy thrown from floats by parade participants. And IΒ really loved the live bands and traditional Mexican dresses and other attire worn by parade participants.
