The Belle Isle Aquarium added a new (and very cute) fish to their collection: the Mbu Puffer Fish. Aquarium supporters had the chance to meet the new Mbu Puffer Fish at the “Deeper Dive: Into the Congo” fundraiser. The funds raised at the event helps with the maintenance and development of the Belle Isle Aquarium.
Elijah and I attended the event to check out the new fish and festivities, and we really enjoyed ourselves! If you haven’t seen the new puffer fish yet, then make sure you make plans to check her out. I was told she’s just a “baby fish” so she will probably grow a little bigger over time.
She’s really cute, you guys! In fact, while I was taking her picture, I could have sworn she smiled at me. Ha! Just kidding. But she is super cute and she does look like she’s smiling at you.
Other fun festivities at the Deeper Dive event were:
Food trucks and an Atwater Brewery Beer Tent
The Solid Foundation Cultural Arts – an African drum and dance ensemble
A Congolese exhibit of artifacts which was provided by the Detroit Children’s Museum
Mini Marketplace of several local Afrocentric businesses
This was the third tank reveal at the Belle Isle Aquarium and there may be a few more in the near future. Three other exhibits were held also held at the Belle Isle Aquarium:
“Deeper Dive: Bite of the Amazon” — the new Piranha Exhibit debuted
“Deeper Dive: Albert Kahn” — guests learned about the construction of the aquarium and conservatory complex
“Deeper Dive: Urgin’ for Sturgeon” an exhibit which covered the history of the Prohibition Era and the launch of the Surgeon Exhibit
The “Deeper Dive” series is a quarterly event held at Belle Isle. You can get more information about the next Deeper Dive event by clicking here.
