Happy November! How did October sneak away so quickly? November is here, and now we have just two months left in 2023!
Soon, we will be seeing a lot of festive holiday events poppin’ up in Detroit and the metro area. And one of the first holiday events to kick off the season is All Things Detroit Holiday Shopping Experience & Food Truck Rally at Eastern Market!
Presented by Ask Jennyfer, the annual holiday event will be this Sunday, so get your holiday gift list ready! It’s time to start gift shopping for your family and friends.
Also happening this weekend are three art events and a LEGO extravaganza happening Saturday and Sunday!
Side note– if you haven’t been to the DIA’s Celebrating el Día de Muertos exhibit yet, make sure you go this weekend. Sunday, November 5th, is the last day. We went on Wednesday, and it is a beautiful, heartfelt art exhibition!

Project Art Teens! | Free
Date: Saturday, Nov. 4th
Time: 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
Place: E. Seven Mile Rd., Detroit

Event Summary: Project Art’s resident artist Ben Haddix will lead teen art classes on Saturdays at the Lincoln Branch Library in Detroit. This art class is open to ages 11 – 18, and supplies will be provided.
Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis, and it’s an ongoing series happening on Saturdays throughout the year!

Pieces of Detroit | Free
Date: Saturday, November 4th
Time: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Place: This event will be held at multiple locations– Newlab @ MCS, The Southwest Greenway, The FREC, Roosevelt Park, Viaduct Vernor & Newark. (Maps will be available at the event to help you navigate around the Michigan Central Station.)

Event Summary: The Detroit Creative Society presents Pieces of Detroit, a community and cultural event. Pieces of Detroit will feature a two-piece mural installation highlighting the major cultures make Detroit beautiful!
Additionally, guests are invited to find each mural and collect the four puzzle pieces. Think art scavenger hunt. You can pick up a map at the event to help you navigate around the Michigan Central Station to find the mural art.
Bring your completed map to receive a goodie bag! The mural installations can be found in multiple areas surrounding the Michigan Central Station.
There will be music, vendors, dancers, art, and free food!

Women I Love: A Fiber Arts Exhibition by Mandisa Smith
Date: Saturday, Nov. 4th
Time: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Place: Norwest Art Gallery | 19556 Grand River Ave., Detroit

Event Summary: Detroit fiber artist Mandisa Smith will introduce her new artwork at this solo exhibition. Women I Love honors the women the artist loves, from their work to their presence, activism, and Blackness.
“These women light my way,” says artist Mandisa, “and so, the exhibit includes several lighted sculptures, in honor of them.”

Brickworld Detroit | $15 – $20
Date: November 4 – 5
Time: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Saturday) and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Sunday)
Place: 14500 E. 12 Mile Rd., Warren

Event Summary: Brickworld sounds like an event that’s perfect for LEGO lovers! There will be LEGO displays, interactive play stations, and unique LEGO vendors.
Admission is $18 if you pay online and $20 at the box office. Military and First Responders can get discount tickets for $15. Children under age 3 are free.

All Things Detroit Holiday Shopping Experience & Food Truck Rally | $5 – $10
Date: Sunday, Nov. 5th
Time: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Place: Eastern Market – Sheds 3, 4, & 5
Event Summary: All Things Detroit Holiday Shopping Experience & Food Truck Rally is one of the biggest holiday shopping events in Detroit! Shop over 200 small business owners and their unique products– perfect for finding one-of-a-kind holiday gifts for your family and friends.
There will also be a food truck rally, face painting for the kids, two DJs… and I hear Santa Claus will be at ATD Holiday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. if you’d like to get cute holiday photos with the kids or your friends!
Admission is $10 for Beat the Crowd tickets (available online only) and $5 General Admission at the door.
