This weekend’s event round-up includes Motor City Comic Con, Paws & Claws Cat Show, Keith Sweat in concert at Music Hall, the Ruth E. Carter Afrofuturism exhibition at The Wright, and a furniture sale at Mama Coo’s Boutique in Corktown.

1. Motor City Comic Con | $30 – $249+

Event Summary: Motor Comic Con returns to Metro Detroit this weekend! The 3-day event will feature a variety of entertainment in pop culture, comic books, movies TV shows, and more.
Cosplay costumes are encouraged. There will also be celebrity guests such as some of my favs Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars), David Harbour (Stranger Things), Mae Whitman (Parenthood, Good Girls), Peter Weller (RoboCop, Sons of Anarchy), and TC Carson (Living Single, Star Wars)
Ticket prices vary, and children’s admission fees are fairly low. Check the website for details.

2. Paws & Claws, CFA Cat Show | $15 – $20
Date: November 11 – 12, 2023
Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Nov. 11) and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Nov. 12)
Place: Huntington Place | 1 Washington Blvd., Detroit

Event Summary: Paws & Claws, CFA Cat Show will be held at the Huntington Place (formerly the Cobo Center) on Saturday and Sunday.
There will be over 225 cats featurig over 35 cat breeds. Rescue cats will also be available for adoption if you’re looking for a furry companion to take into your furever home.
Other features include a Cat Cafe, free goodie bags, free cat coloring books for the first 500 kids, and a Meow Mall featuring over 20 vendors selling cat-related products (non-cat-related products also will be available).
3. Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design | $15 – $30
Date: November 10 – 12, 2023 (Note: This exhibit is ongoing until March 31, 2024.)
Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Place: Charles H. Wright Museum | 315 E. Warren Ave., Detroit

Event Summary: I’ve heard (and seen) so many good things about the new Ruth E. Carter exhibition at The Wright! The art exhibit features over 60 original designs from iconic films like Black Panther, Malcolm X, and Do The Right Thing.
Admission prices vary according to membership/non-membership status and age of children. See The Wright’s official website for more details.

4. Furniture Sale at Mama Coo’s Boutique | Free to attend; furniture available for purchase.

Event Summary: Detroit resale and vintage shop Mama Coo’s Boutique is hosting a furniture sale this weekend. This small biz shopping event is perfect if you are looking for rare finds or vintage pieces. I always love finding unique, vintage home decor items at Mama Coo’s.

5. Keith Sweat in Concert at Music Hall | $74.50 – $110
