I remember when Travis was in the Army, we used to use coupons for most of our shopping. From grocery coupons to restaurant coupons, we loved finding good deals to save money for our growing family.

Almost every Sunday, we’d sort through coupons from the newspaper and clip the best ones. We even liked to collect coupons for retail stores and restaurants. After collecting our coupons, we would then organize them in our coupon wallet.

One time I went as far as putting the coupons in a binder and keeping them organized that way. Wow! Extreme couponing at its finest, right?

Even though I loved searching through the coupon section to find the best deals (it seriously felt like a treasure hunt), it was always a bit of a hassle to keep our coupons organized and sort through them at the store.

I must confess, I stopped using paper coupons because it was becoming difficult for me to keep up with the coupons and juggle five kids at the grocery store. I know all of my friends with kids can relate!

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for the DFCUPerks account. It’s a new benefits program DFCU Financial recently launched. The DFCUPerks app is an exclusive benefit for DFCUPerks and DFCUPerks Plus account members.

When you sign up for your DFCUPerks checking account, you will get access to close to 400,000 nationwide deals such as cellphone protection, roadside assistance, and special discounts.

MY EXPERIENCE USING THE DFCUPERKS APP

I was a little skeptical, at first, but after using the app, I have discovered it more than pays for itself! Since using the DFCUPerks app, I have taken advantage of a few sweet deals. The other day, for instance, Travis and I took the kids to the mall for a rainy day activity. I used my coupon I found on my DFCUPerks app for Auntie Anne’s Pretzels to get a discount on our pretzel order. The coupon discount is for a free pretzel when you purchase a pretzel combo.

Last weekend, we used the DFCUPerks app for a discount at Hungry Howie’s pizza restaurant. We ordered a couple of large pizzas and a Howie Roll. With the restaurant’s app coupon, we were able to get a second Howie Roll for free with the purchase of one roll.

While we were at the mall, we stopped by Auntie Anne’s to use our DFCUPerks coupon. There are a few restaurants and stores at my local mall that offer discounts through DFCUPerks!

My DFCUPerks app alerted me of a deal at Auntie Anne’s at my local mall.
With my Auntie Anne’s coupon, I was able to get the kids a free pretzel!

Michala and I also did a little shopping at Express and Style Encore. We were looking for summer dresses for Eastern Market’s upcoming Flower Day 2019. Both fashion brands are participating businesses on the DFCUPerks app.

At Express, you can get 15% off your purchase. While at Style Encore you can either get $5 off your order of $25 or more or $5 off your order of $10 or more. Every little bit helps so I was excited to use my Perks app to save a little money on our purchases.

These are just two of many stores that offer discounts through the DFCUPerks app. There are many more businesses you can discover on the app. The deals will also update so you can expect to find new discounts over time.

Michala found a cute pair of boots at Style Encore, where we used my $5 off coupon through the DFCUPerks app. Plato’s Closet is also a participating business in the DFCUPerks app!

DFCUPERKS DEALS FOUND ACROSS THE U.S.!

Okay, you’re going to really love this next perk from the DFCUPerks account. The discounts you unlock on your DFCUPerks app can be used in other locations, not just your local area.

For instance, if you live in Warren, Michigan and you plan on making a trip to Detroit, there will be discount options for the Detroit area on your app. All you do is put in the location of your choice.

I even tested the app to see if there are discounts available in my hometown of Fort Campbell, Ky and there were deals available! I checked for Chicago, Illinois and found many deals, too. So the DFCUPerks app is a great tool for when you are traveling near or far!

I found a great discount at a Style Encore and bought these cute shoes! By using my DFCUPerks app, I was able to use a $5 Off coupon for a purchase over $25. The women’s consignment store is located about 20 minutes from the city I live.

GET MORE PERKS DISCOUNTS ONLINE

Another great “perk” to having the DFCUPerks app is you can also get discounts when you shop online. All you do is got to www.dfcufinancial.com/perks to sign into your DFCUPerks account and the online discounts will display on your main dashboard in the section entitled “Local Deals”.

There are many brands featured on our DFCUPerks account online that are not featured on the mobile app. For instance, I found a discount for Target.com and Kohls.com! You can also get a discount on delivery restaurants such as Hungry Howie’s and Papa John’s.
