Lately, I’ve been sharing updates with you about my experience using DFCU Financial’s DFCUPerks app and other great benefits of the DFCUPerks checking account membership.
My DFCUPerks membership started in May and I have been enjoying all of the wonderful perks of the app. From discounts at my favorite women’s boutique to using app coupons for dinner at a local restaurant, I am discovering so many great benefits with my DFCUPerks account.
Today, however, I wanted to share with you how I was able to use my DFCUPerks app to request roadside assistance. I’ve been collaborating with DFCU Financial to share with you the new DFCUPerks membership, but this little mishap I experienced was not planned AT ALL! It was a complete accident on my part, but because of my DFCUPerks membership, I was able to receive roadside assistance in a very timely manner.
A few weeks ago, I had locked my keys in my van. *Insert facepalm emoji here.* We’ve all been there. Accidentally locking your keys in your vehicle can be a big pain, especially when you have children. For me, I was on my way to pick up my oldest daughter Michala from her job.
I had about 20 minutes before I needed to be at Michala’s job to pick her up so I decided to stop by Kroger to get a few groceries. As I was putting groceries in my van, I set my keys down on my son’s car seat.
Without even thinking, I pressed the button to close the passenger door. Since I didn’t have my driver’s side door open, my van automatically locked all of the doors. As soon as I heard the click sound of the locks, I realized what I had just done. Saying aloud to myself, “NO! My keys are in the van!”
I peeped inside the window and saw my keys in the car seat. Immediately, I started to think quickly about what are my options. My first thought was “I need to find a way to get my keys because I have to go get Michala.” Since it was after 9 P.M. I didn’t want her to have to wait by herself. Then I started to think about how I could get the keys out of the van.
“Great! Now I have to pay a lot of money to get a locksmith,” I thought to myself. I wasn’t too happy about this because I had also just bought groceries. Those unexpected life expenses always seem to sneak up on you, don’t they?
I texted Michala to let her know what happened and to see if she could ask a coworker to give her a ride. I then texted my husband to let him know what had happened. For about five minutes, Travis and I brainstormed ideas via text. That’s when it hit me I had roadside assistance with DFCUPerks!
I logged into my DFCUPerks account and searched for the 24-Hour Roadside Assistance Option. Once I found the toll-free number, I called my request in and within about 20 minutes, a customer service representative contacted a local locksmith to come out to my location to help me.
I was told my wait time would be up to 45 minutes, but the locksmith had arrived in about 25 minutes. He had my van unlocked in less than 10 minutes and I didn’t have to pay anything for the service! My DFCUPerks membership covered the expense! *Okay, now insert praise hands emoji.*
