I love the farmer’s market! If you’ve been following my blog or social media for a while, then you know I go to the farmers market all the time.

I love getting fresh food and finding unique foods and products from small business growers and vendors. I always seem to find good deals at the farmer’s market, too.

The wintertime is a little challenging to get out to the farmers market because it’s so dang cold in Detroit. And it snows quite a bit.

I didn’t make it to the farmers market last weekend. We had a few snow days last week (although it feels like it was longer than that because the winter is so dreary, and time seems to go by kind of slow lol).

After being cooped up in the house for a few days, I was excited to get out to the farmers market this past Saturday! I found some great deals for $58.

Here’s what I got:

  • 3 dozen farm eggs
  • 1/2 bushel of apples
  • 2 small cabbages
  • 3 small Bok Choy
  • carrots
  • 3 yellow squashes
  • tomatoes
  • red potatoes
  • Yukon gold potatoes
  • bag of spinach
  • small jar of honey
  • 2 limes
  • 3 avocados
  • 2 bags of ginger root
  • 2 garlic bulbs
My farmer’s market haul from Eastern Market, only $58!
We cook with ginger root all of the time. I like to use ginger in homemade smoothies, too. Garlic is also a big staple for our cooking.

Grocery prices are insanely high right now! Feeding a family of eight has been challenging since the food prices increased. I’ve been finding creative ways to get healthy foods on a tight budget (and trust me– I know how to stretch a dollar!).

Buying our groceries at the farmer’s market has helped us tremendously. I find good deals, the food lasts longer, and it tastes better, too.

One day soon, I will share a blog post on how we get creative with our grocery budget. I shared a blog post last year about tips on grocery shopping on a budget. Some of those tips have changed since then.

(For instance, we don’t buy our fresh foods at Aldi anymore. Even though the prices are cheap, the produce goes bad fast! WTF! It’s so frustrating.)

The farm eggs I get at Eastern Market costs $6 for a dozen. The eggs are big, usually with double yolk, and they taste WAY better than the grocery store.
I buy 1/2 bushel of apples for only $10. My kids will go through this bag in a week! omg
I love T.M. Klein & Sons honey. I like to use it for cooking and my loose-leaf tea. Last year, I replaced sugar for honey in my tea and it’s been a great change!

Do you like to buy your food at the farmer’s market?
