One-woman band, pronoun (Alyse Vellturo) premiered her new single ‘wrong’ (Rhyme and Reason Records) on NPR and today, she arrives with the visuals for the song, premiering exclusively on Clash Music.
‘wrong’, the second single from her debut album, set to drop in 2019, maintains the niche, lo-fi sound that has garnered attention from the likes of The New York Times and NPR while embodying all the emotions she feels towards an ex-girlfriend. The song was written when she received some weird news about her ex and addresses the notion of loneliness. For the video, she calls on the help of her friend to address those same themes.
“I came up with the idea behind this video while boarding down 3rd avenue on my way to work. Sometimes being an independent artist/label in a majors world seems impossible. It’s frustrating and makes me feel defeated and isolated. At my lowest, I turn to my friends, colleagues, and in this case, the artists on my own record label that I started (Sleep Well Records) and they remind me that what really matters at the end of the day is having fun and trying your absolute best, together. A lot of my demons are in my head, not in reality. Kind of dark so I wanted to make light of it with a fun basketball game that outlined that very concept and enlisted some of the Sleep Well roster (Charles Fauna, Sulene, and Cape Francis) as well as some friends. You’re only as alone as you let yourself be, which is also one of the inspirations for the song ‘wrong’.”

Back in 2016, pronoun released her debut EP, ‘There’s no one new around you,’ an ode to the Tinder message one receives once they’ve reached the end of all eligible contenders on the app. The four-track EP is filled with delicate rock tracks that were all written, recorded, and produced by Vellturo herself after a strenuous breakup.
She has since toured stateside with the likes of Turnover and Basement, launched her own record label, played SXSW twice (and threw an official showcase at SXSW 2018), and released ‘run,’ the lead single from her forthcoming album which premiered on Stereogum and has garnered attention from The New York Times, Billboard, NYLON and more.
pronoun will perform at Saint Andrews Hall on November 2, 2018.
