Detroit Mama Hub Hosts Pumpspotting Event
May 10 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDTFree
Something BIG is rolling into Detroit’s northwest side to promote breastfeeding and maternal health. On Friday, May 10, a 40-foot, bright teal, and pink RV will be on-site at Detroit Mama Hub to raise awareness about breastfeeding and offer support to mothers.
The mobile lactation and nursing suite dubbed the ‘Breast Express,’ is the creation of pumpspotting, a website, and app designed to connect nursing moms, find breastfeeding/pumping friendly locations worldwide, and share resources and advice.
“We designed pumpspotting to unite breastfeeding women and build a community of support,” says founder Amy Van Haren, who launched the company in 2016. “What better way to further our goal and understand how to serve moms who nurse and pump than by bringing together different communities nationwide?”
Anyone can stop by Friday between 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. to learn about breastfeeding resources and local programs that support new and expectant mothers. Certified lactation consultant Jalyn Spencer-Harris, IBCLC will be providing free breastfeeding support, and moms can check out pumping equipment, try out relaxing nursing chairs, and enjoy coffee, snacks, and free giveaways.
“Pumpspotting and the ‘Breast Express’ completely align with our mission of providing accessible resources and support to mamas in Detroit, and we are so excited to be part of the nationwide tour,” says Spencer-Harris, who co-founded Detroit Mama Hub in 2018.
