Happy Friday! In today’s post, I’m sharing a family fall bucket list I created for my family. I’ve also created a printable of our fall family bucket list. If you click HERE, then you can go straight to the fall bucket list section of this post.
How has your fall season been going so far? We have been enjoying the fall family activities in Detroit and the metro area. We even went trick or treating early this year! My friend Tiffany invited us to her church’s trunk or treat event and the kids were SO EXCITED to go!
Aside from Halloween, October is an exciting month for us because Zhen turns 7 in October! That’s all she talks about now. “My birthday! I can’t wait to be seven!”
Remember when you used to get excited about turning a new age? “I can’t wait to be 10. I can’t wait to be 16! I can’t wait to be 21!”
Now it’s completely different. The older you get it’s either: “Wait…how old am I again?” or “Please don’t remind me I’m turning another year older.” Ha!
Zhen’s birthday is on the 30th– the day before Halloween. So as you can imagine, Halloween is also another exciting celebration for us. Zhen pretty much thinks Halloween is HER day. 😉
HOW TO USE YOUR FAMILY FALL BUCKET LIST
Do your kids love scavenger hunts? Travis makes scavenger hunts for our little ones whenever they go on nature walks. He creates a table and draws pictures of different animals and objects for the kids to find while they are on their walk.
This fall family bucket list I created is kind of like a scavenger hunt. You could turn it into a fun family game by having your kids place stickers on the activities you do through the fall season.
DON’T FORGET TO CELEBRATE COMPLETING YOUR FALL FAMILY BUCKET LIST!
HERE’S A FUN IDEA:
Once you check off all 28 days, you could celebrate with a fun fall-themed family night. For instance, on the Fall Family Activities List, I have featured “HOST A BONFIRE.”
You could save the bonfire as the last fall activity you do and invite family and friends over for a big, fall celebration!
ANOTHER FUN WAY TO CELEBRATE:
Or celebrate completing the fall family bucket list with a trip to the cider mill! You could take the kids to an apple orchard or a cider mill that has a pumpkin patch.
Whatever idea you come up with to celebrate completing the fall family activities, have FUN and make it YOUR OWN sweet family memory to cherish!
WHAT WE’VE DONE SO FAR ON OUR FAMILY FALL BUCKET LIST
1. HARVEST FESTIVAL: We attended the D-Town Farm Harvest Festival in Detroit.
2. SPOOKY MOVIE: We started watching Halloween movies in September! Now our family tradition is to watch Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas on Halloween Day/Night. I’m looking forward to that because we go trick or treating and then order pizza and watch spooky movies together!
3. COZY SWEATER: Well, I have this cozy fall blazer that I really love so that counts, right? 🙂 I do plan on getting a few cozy fall sweaters for the kids and me at the thrift store.
4. TRUNK OR TREAT: Last weekend, we attended a trunk or treat event in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
5. BAKE FALL GOODIES: Travis bought a Betty Crocker icing and Pilsbury pumpkin cookies for the kids to make spooky Halloween cookies.
6. COOK HOMEMADE CHILI: This is funny because I just cooked crockpot chili a couple of days ago. CHECK!
7. CHECK OUT FALL-THEMED BOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY. Since my little ones are learning about the autumn season and holidays that are celebrated in fall, I checked out a bunch of fall-themed books for homeschool.
8. HALLOWEEN COSTUME: So far, I have bought Halloween makeup to create Halloween looks for events we attend. We also took the kids to Spirit Halloween to browse the Halloween costumes for some ideas.
9. EXPLORE THE FALL COLORS AT THE PARK: We’ve been going on nature walks and we have visited two parks so far to explore the fall colors.
LOOKING FORWARD TO DECORATING PUMPKINS
One fall activity I’m really looking forward to is decorating pumpkins. I like to buy acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby or Walmart. This year, though, I bought my paint supplies from Arts & Scraps in Detroit. It’s a BIG money-saver for our tight budget!
I HIGHLY recommend visiting Arts & Scraps if you are wanting to create art and craft projects. If you don’t live in Detroit or the surrounding area, then visit your local thrift stores or see if you can find an organization that sells arts and scraps at a discounted rate.
