I’m a busy mom. Busy moms usually don’t have a lot of time on their hands to get dressed up or where their favorite shade of lipstick. With five kids to care for and homeschool, my typical beauty and fashion style is comfy and natural.
During our school week, I don’t wear makeup and I don’t wear my hair styled. If you came to my house right now, you’d find me in a long, flowy skirt or comfy lounge pants with no makeup. Just
When we go out somewhere or on the weekends, I like to let my hair down (or fluff it up in my case since I like to wear it in a curly fro) and get
THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH WANTING TO LOOK YOUR BEST,
ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE DOING IT FOR Y-O-U!
And guess what? You don’t have to spend a massive amount of money, either.
Ever since our income has changed, my spending limit for beauty and fashion products has decreased. So I got a little creative with how I spend my money and I found an inexpensive way to look my best.
Here are my five must-haves I use for looking my best while on a tight budget:
1. VIBRANT LIPSTICK
My motto for red lipstick is “everything is better with red lipstick”. Why? Think about it. When you wear red lipstick, have you ever noticed how it instantly changes your look?
I think this motto can also be applied to all vibrant lip color shades. It’s just something about wearing a purple or a neon pink shade of lipstick.
You don’t even really need to put on much makeup when you wear a vibrant lip shade. You could get away with wearing mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick and you’d look fabulous!
2. GOLD HOOP EARRINGS
I have discovered when I wear my gold hoop earrings, it really dresses up my look. For instance, when I wear my hoops with a casual style like a top with leggings, the earrings somehow complete the look.
3. RED NAIL POLISH
To look good for less, I recommend wearing a red shade of nail polish. Just like lipstick, red nail polish is a classic color that creates a sophisticated style.
It doesn’t matter if your nails are long or short. Apply a base coat, then two coats of your favorite shade of red.
Seal it with a strong top coat (I like to use Seche Vite’s Dry Fast Top Coat) and you’ve got yourself an exquisite look that screams beautiful, confident, and strong woman! That’s how I always feel when I wear my red nail polish!
4. DAZZLING HAIR ACCESSORY
Another beauty hack I suggest is wearing a hair accessory to create a dazzling look. It can be something as simple as bobby pins to pull your hair to the side or a big, colorful flower. A hair accessory can create a whole new look for you.
Having a bad hair day? Tie your hair back in a ponytail and add a bow or a sparkling hair clip to refresh your look.
Have short curly hair like me? Pin your hair to the side with a big flower or a gold clip to give yourself a new style.
5. WAX HOME-KIT
Okay, this last tip I’m going to give you is a pretty bold move for me. I’m even going to share photos of me applying the wax. (Don’t laugh! LOL)
As I was planning my list of things I use regularly to look stylish while on a budget, I couldn’t help but think I have to tell my friends how I wax my own eyebrows and facial hair. It’s something I’ve been doing for the last 3.5 years!
I used to pay a stylist once every two weeks for a wax treatment, but after a while, it got really expensive. Don’t get me wrong: there’s nothing wrong with paying to have your eyebrows done. But if you can’t afford it, you have to find a cheaper alternative, right?
I tried different brands from places like Sally’s Beauty store. Nothing seemed to work for me. Then one day I came across the Sally Hansen Microwaveable Eyebrow, Face & Lip Wax Kit at Walmart. I gave it a try and it worked perfectly for me!
I don’t use tweezers to pluck my eyebrows because I have very sensitive skin. It causes a rash on my skin so this is why I prefer to use wax. The wax does not irritate my skin.
It only cost me a little over $5 for a small jar of wax. All you do is microwave the wax and it melts once it’s hot. It comes with mini tweezers, brow guides, and a temperature sensitive spatula.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE USUALLY ASK ME ABOUT WAXING:
DOES IT HURT WHEN YOU APPLY THE WAX TO YOUR FACE?
The wax has to be hot in order for it to work so it feels warm on my skin. Make sure you don’t apply the wax when it’s very hot, though, because you could burn your skin.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN THE WAX IS TOO HOT?
When you use the Temperature
DOES IT HURT WHEN YOU PULL THE WAX OFF?
I’m not going to lie to you. It hurts some, but the pain is very brief. It’s just like when a stylist waxes your eyebrows. Keep in mind, I have a high tolerance for pain so my comfort level may differ from yours.
The most uncomfortable area for me to wax is my lip area. But it’s a quick pull so the pain is minimal.
The kit also comes with the Sally Hansen Post-Treatment Extrasoothe Lotion with 5% Benzocaine and it works perfectly for me.
WILL THE WAX STILL WORK IF I USE STRIPS?
Yes. You can get strips from your local beauty supply store or on Amazon. I just use the wax directly on my skin. Choose a method that works best for you and your skin!
HERE IS MY FINAL RESULT AFTER USING THE WAX:
SPECIAL NOTE: Everyone has different skin and products may react differently for your skin type. Read the labels before purchasing the product and test a small section to make sure this product is right for you.
