Summer is winding down and the first day of school is right around the corner. There are many organizations hosting back-to-school events in Detroit and the metro area to help students and their families prepare for the new school year.
Here are five back-to-school events you may like. A few of the events were shared with me so I thought I’d pass along the info on the blog, too!

FIVE BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENTS IN DETROIT AND THE METRO AREA
FRIENDS AND FAMILY FUN DAY
Hosted by the Sasha Center
WHEN: Sunday, August 29th
TIME: 12 P.M. to 3 P.M.
WHERE: S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center — 19320 Van Dyke Ave., Detroit, MI 48234
The Sasha Center is hosting a “Friends and Family Fun Day” this Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Free back-to-school supplies will be available while they last.
Other fun features include a DJ, face painting, bounce houses, community resource tables, food, and more.

THE RESOURCE PARTY FREE COMMUNITY AFFAIR
Hosted by Take My Hand
WHEN: Sunday, August 29th
TIME: 3 P.M to 6 P.M.
WHERE: 17585 James Couzens Fwy, Detroit, MI 48235
Detroit nonprofit Take My Hand is hosting a community event on Sunday, August 29th. There will be many fun activities and games for the kids, such as a bounce house and face painting.
Free backpacks and school supplies will also be available while supplies last. Other supply giveaways include diapers, formula, clothing, and more. There will also be free resources available, such as credit repair, mental health, life insurance, and HIV/STD prevention, and more.

DETROIT GRIND DAY PARTY
Hosted by IAMTHEGRIND.COM (Ages 21+ event only)
WHEN: Saturday, September 4th
TIME: 5 P.M to 9 P.M.
WHERE: Society Detroit — 1995 Woodbridge St., Detroit, MI 48207
TICKETS: Click here to purchase your tickets. This is a 21 and up event.
Grownups, come out for a fun, safe time, and support local students at the same time!
The annual Detroit Grind Day Party is having a backpack and school supplies drive. The group’s goal is to collect 200+ book bags and school supplies to donate to a local grade school.
Party features include a battle of the decades the 90s VS 00s, drink specials, booths and hookah, and music by the legendary J. Hearns and DJ Eli.
BACK TO SCHOOL POP-UP SHOP AND GIVEAWAY
Hosted by Building Bosses Boutique and Mommy and Me Caring Hands
WHEN: Sunday, September 5th
TIME: 2 P.M. to 5 P.M.
WHERE: 3434 Russell St., Detroit, MI 48207
Building Bosses Boutique and Mommy and Me Caring Hands will host a back-to-school event on Sunday, September 4th. There will be free haircuts, school uniforms, and book bags with supplies.
Fun activities such as a bounce house will be available for the kids to play. And for the adults, there will be a live dj, raffles, and cash bar (ages 21+ only).
Special guests include Detroit City Council President Pro Tempore Mary Sheffield, Jenny Payne, and DPD Sgt. J. Hall.

JUMP INTO SCHOOL CHARITY EVENT
WHEN: Sunday, September 5th
TIME: 10 A.M. to 8 P.M.
WHERE: 26042 W. 12 Mile Rd., Southfield 48034
This charity event will feature free haircuts, hairstyles, hair braiding, nail techs, and more. Free book bags and school supplies will also be given away. There will be light refreshments served and a raffle.
