Hi, friends! How was your weekend?
Amazingly, I got out of the house on Friday night!
That’s a big deal for me because Fridays are usually challenging for me to go out because I’m wrapping up my workday (I work from home part-time) and the school day for the kids.
But I couldn’t miss Flamingo Vintage’s 5th Anniversary Party!
It was part of their First Fridays monthly event series they host at their store located in Southwest Detroit.

WHAT IS FIRST FRIDAYS AT FLAMINGO VINTAGE?
Every first Friday of the month, the Detroit vintage store hosts a special event at the store that features live music from a local band or musician.
The music artists perform live music sets INSIDE of the store! It’s like NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, but inside of a hip vintage shop.
Watching a live music show inside of a vintage store is the coolest thing! You gotta experience if you haven’t yet.
Other fun event happenings on First Fridays may also include art and indie fashion pop-ups featuring local artists and designers.
Sometimes a local food business pops up at the shop for First Fridays.
And you can get great deals on vintage styles because the store usually has a sale going on. (That’s how I got one of my vintage denim jackets for such a great deal last year!)
REMEMBERING THE FIRST TIME I SHOPPED AT FLAMINGO VINTAGE
I remember the first time I shopped at Flamingo Vintage. I think it was in 2018 or 2019. This was when my older two kids were teenagers.
Elijah (my oldest son) ended up buying a vintage leather jacket at the Detroit vintage store, and it looked so good on him. He still wears it, too!
Since then, I pop into the shop from time to time to update my wardrobe with new vintage pieces and add new, funky jewelry to my collection.

LOVE THE COMMUNITY AND FRIENDSHIPS AT FLAMINGO
But what I love most about Flamingo Vintage is the community and friendships.
Nikki and Finn are the best, and they always make everyone feel welcome.
Shopping at Flamingo Vintage is such a groovy experience! 🙂 And the anniversary party was a magical evening. I had the best time!

PHOTOS: FLAMINGO VINTAGE DETROIT’S 5TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY
At Flamingo Vintage Detroit’s five-year celebration there was an art pop-up, Sewical Anxiety Clothing’s pop-up, Detroit Party Marching Band performed a couple of sets, and permanent jewelry by Andrea Lockhart Designs.
Detroit artist Sheefy McFly also performed a live DJ set.
He also painted the beautiful mural on the outside of Flamingo Detroit’s building. It’s a must-see Detroit mural if you haven’t seen it yet!

I showed up a little late, after 8 p.m., so I missed the music performances, sadly.
I also missed when Finn proposed to Nikki! *GASP*
But thankfully, my friend Buzz (who is always so kind and welcoming) video recorded the special moment and so I got to see the video of the sweet proposal.
And how amazing was it right after Finn proposed the Detroit Party Marching Band started playing?!
It was the sweetest thing, and I’m happy for Nikki and Finn! Congratulations!
