Happy Halloween! Do you have exciting plans for today?
Travis and I are taking the kids trick or treating. It’s part of our Halloween family tradition. We like to take the kids trick or treating in the neighborhood and then after trick or treating, we order pizza for dinner. When we get home, we eat pizza and watch our favorite Halloween movies– The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus.
And then while I watch the Halloween movies, I sit back and think of all the things I wish we would’ve done for Halloween and make a mental note to do it next year. LOL! Never fails!
The “mom brain” is always turned on and thinking of ways to make the kids happier and make the annual celebrations more festive.
MISCI AFTER DARK HALLOWEEN PARTY
Last week, Travis and I had the opportunity to dress up in Halloween costumes the MiSci After Dark Halloween Party. The Michigan Science Center invited us to attend their Halloween party.
The Michigan Science Center hosts MiSci After Dark on the 3rd Thursday of each month. It’s an adults-only night and each event has a new theme. Last year, we attended the MiSci After Dark Vintage Video Games event and we had a great time! It was packed, too! The vintage video games party is MiSci’s popular After Dark event.
For our Halloween costumes, Travis thought of a cool idea: create a DIY couple’s Halloween costume. His idea? Bob Ross + Diana Ross!
We bought our Halloween outfits at The Salvation Army store and the afro wig at Spirit Halloween. I found a pastel green gown for about $10 and the black faux coat was on sale for $8!
I love this black coat so much! It not only looks great with business casual outfits and dresses. Plus, it keeps me really warm!
For Travis’ paint palette, he made his own design by cutting two pizza box lids into a circle shape. Then he glued them together and used the kids’ paint for the paint spots.
I thought Travis’ costume turned out great! What about you? A lot of people were complimenting him on his Bob Ross costume and asked to take pictures with him.
DINNER + JAZZ AT NORTHERN LIGHTS LOUNGE
After the MiSci Halloween event, we stopped by Northern Lights Lounge (located at 660 W. Baltimore Street in Detroit) for dinner and jazz. The Jimmy Blues Band plays jazz, funk, and soul music every Thursday night. Have you been yet? If not, you’ve gotta try it sometime! The music is always so good and we love the food. It’s a perfect spot for a midweek date night.
We had such a fun night on our Halloween date. I loved dressing up in costume for Halloween. I asked Travis, “Why did we do this before?!”
Married 8 years and just now doing a couples-themed costume? We’ve been missing out! But not anymore. Next year, it’s on and we’re making this Halloween date night WITH costumes our new annual tradition!
If you go out tonight for Halloween, have fun and be safe! xoxo
