How was your week? We had a busy week with getting our minivan fixed (so many unfortunate events happened with our old van), visiting Santa George at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets (so fun!), and working on homeschool lessons. I also had the opportunity to participate in a Giving Tuesday fundraiser event, which I detail down below.

Tomorrow, I have an exciting interview with hip hop artist Mahogany Jones that I’m going to share on the blog. Stay tuned for that! In the meantime, here are four Detroit things I think you’ll like to know.

Hope you have a good weekend and don’t forget to shop small to find unique holiday gifts!

Arts & Scraps’ Giving Tuesday Event “Shopping Showdown” was So Much Fun!

Giving Tuesday was earlier this week and I participated in Arts & Scraps’ fundraising event called Shopping Showdown. Created similarly to the hit show Supermarket Sweep, contestants were given five minutes to fill one, large grocery bag with art supplies in the store.

I saw so many goodies that I liked that it was hard to choose just a few items. Haha! I’m looking forward to going back to Arts & Scraps soon so I can take the kids to get more art supplies for our homeschool.

The Detroit nonprofit raised $360 on Giving Tuesday. The donations will be used to jump-start Arts & Scraps Community Store Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund will help provide teachers, artists, and local non-profits with resources to continue making an impact in the community. Click here to make a donation to Arts & Scraps!

Dr. Sabrina Jackson and Lakina Fulks Share Tips on How to Survive Quarantine During the Holidays

Life coach Lakina Fulks recently had Dr. Sabrina Jackson on her YouTube segment “Believe in Yourself Tuesday.” The motivational speaker interviewed Dr. Sabrina about tips and strategies on how to survive the holidays during the pandemic.

One tip Dr. Sabrina shared was to use this time to be innovative and creative in how you plan your holiday celebration with your loved ones. For instance, you can plan a holiday dinner with your loved ones on Zoom. “We have to be innovative and be open to doing it differently,” Dr. Sabrina said on the show. “I think that you can absolutely still enjoy your holiday season.”

The People’s Expert, as she’s fondly known in Detroit, went on to say, “It is important to think positive. It is important to get a positive spin on the fact that I may not be able to do it the same way, but I still get to do it.”

You can watch the video of Lakina Fulks interviewing Dr. Sabrina Jackson here. Follow Dr. Sabrina Jackson on Instagram here and Lakina Fulks’ on Instagram here.

Award-winning Filmmaker and Writer B. Van Randall Presents New Comic “Beyond Me” Starring Comedian HaHa Davis

Award-winning filmmaker and writer B. Van Randall has a new comic book out! A couple of years ago, I interviewed the Detroit native to learn more about his project Therians: The Awakening. Randall’s character inspiration for the main character Carlos is Detroit Comedian Carlos “HaHa” Davis. The 32-page comic is also illustrated by artist JG and is part of the Verse Comics USA company, which is also based in Detroit.

“Beyond Me” is about Carlos, a quick-witted attorney with a knack for tipping the scales of justice and he is about to discover the true depths of his supernatural powers! Considering his start in life, Carlos is doing pretty darn well for himself these days. He has a lucrative career as a defense lawyer. His 360-wave (hairstyle) game is impeccable. And, his taste in suits, cologne, and women are top-notch. What many people wouldn’t know by looking at the Carlos Davis Esq. of today is that he was born addicted to the drug Split—Split baby, split baby, yeah, that’s him!
