Are you planning on attending the Tamia concert at Beacon Park this Saturday? The six-time Grammy-nominated, R&B singer-songwriter is headling the event and I know it’s going to be a great show!
Last year, I saw Tamia perform at GM River Days in Downtown Detroit and her performance was SO GOOD! She sang quite a few of my favorites such as “So Into You” and “Stranger In My House,” and she brought out her husband Grant Hill onto the stage for a quick chat. Grant is a former professional basketball player (Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic to name a few) and also NBA Inside Stuff host.
Kool Moe Dee is a prominent American hip hop MC whose career spans over 30 years. He was one of the first rappers to earn a Grammy Award and perform at the Grammys.
Rapper and record producer, Doug E. Fresh, is an active force in the hip-hop movement. He’s credited as the beat box creator and known as the “Human Beat Box.” He had a string of hit singles with former partner Slick Rick in the early and mid-1980s, most notably “The Show” and “La-Di-Da-Di”.
DJ Mal-Ski in an international DJ and producer who has shared the stage with Kanye West, Mary Mary and Stevie Wonder.
FIVE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GO TO BEACON PARK’S SUMMER CONCERT THIS SATURDAY
So here’s why you’re going to want to attend this concert:
#1: The concert is FREE! Can’t beat that, right?!
#2: Hip hop legends Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, and DJ Mal-Ski will also be at the concert! Beacon Park made the announcement today! Doug E. Fresh will MC the concert while Kool Moe Dee will perform.
#3: The Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit and the Detroit 313 Experience will perform.
#4: It’s Beacon Park’s 2nd-anniversary celebration.
I am also attending the NAACP 110th National Convention July 20 – 24 so I am really excited about Beacon Park’s anniversary celebration!
EXPANDED VIEWING FOR CONCERT
It’s going to be a big night for the Saturday concert! Beacon Park is going to offer an expanded viewing area with screens and limited seating for the show. So make sure you get there early to secure your spot!
NAACP INTERACTIVE LIGHT AND VIDEO SHOW
Saturday’s concert will also include a specially curated NAACP interactive light and video show, produced by Detroit-based Mindfield. The light and video show will be projected onto the Grand Army of the Republic building.
Beacon Park’s “Night Market” will also be going on from 7 to 10 P.M. during the concert event. There will be local vendors, artisan goods, food trucks, cash bars, lawn games, and more fun activities at the Night Market.
Lumen Detroit will also be open for dinner, craft beer, and cocktails. They have a nice patio, too. It’s perfect for viewing the special events on Saturday night!
