The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) and the Science Gallery Lab Detroit (SGLD) will host their eighth and final installment of the discussion series The Intersection: The Science of Food and Music with Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Chef Max Hardy, and dream hampton.

According to the contemporary art museum, MOCAD’s Intersection Series is a program which “features artists who are pushing the boundaries between the fields of science and art and examine how an interdisciplinary approach to thinking and problem solving can help us address some of today’s most challenging social issues.”

John Corso, art historian

During the special dinner and lecture, Questlove (drummer and joint frontman from Grammy Award-winning band The Roots) will share his experience in understanding the art of food. He will also tie into the discussion themes from his book somethingtofoodabout.

Questlove’s new book somethingtofoodabout: Exploring Creativity with Innovative Chefs features conversations with ten chefs in America and explores their creativity with food, how cooking teaches them to see the world, and more interesting topics about the world of cooking.

Owner and chef of Detroit’s River Bistro, Chef Max Hardy will also join the discussion to reflect on his influences, motivators, and how the city of Detroit has shaped his practice. While legendary Detroit-born, Los Angeles-based filmmaker and writer dream hampton will moderate the conversation. dream hampton’s work has been featured in Bon Appetit, Harper’s Bazaar, and The New York Times.

Legendary Detroit filmmaker and writer dream hampton will also be a special guest at The Intersection Series at MOCAD.

Guests will have the opportunity to purchase copies of Questlove’s book somethingtofoodabout at the MOCAD store and he will sign books after the conversation.

Admission for the lecture and book signing is free with a suggested donation of $5. RSVP is strictly required as this event will fill up really fast!

If you’re not able to RSVP for the event, you can still have a chance to attend. Unclaimed seats will be given away to first come first serve visitors at 6:40 p.m.

Questlove Curated Dinner

MOCAD and SGLD will also host a special dinner and lecture featuring special guests Questlove, Chef Max Hardy, dream hampton, and jessica Care moore.

The lecture and book signing is now sold out. Tickets started at $275 ($360 for non-members, $275 for members, $325 with a MOCAD membership purchase at the individual level or above). Proceeds from the event help keep MOCAD’s ground-breaking and highly educational public programs free and accessible.

Guests will enjoy a special dinner prepared by Chef Max Hardy. MOCAD Board Member and poet jessica Care moore will also share some of her poetry. DJ Husain Salah will provide the music.
