Kids’ Patriotic Paper Plate Wreath

Last night, the kids were feeling a little bored so I thought it would be fun if we created a patriotic craft together. They always get excited when I pull out our big craft box because they love creating crafts. We ended up creating a fun 4th of July paper plate wreath. It’s a fun and easy kids’ 4th of July craft idea that doesn’t require a lot of supplies. In fact, most of the art supplies I purchased came from the Dollar Tree!

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

paper plate

2 to 3 glitter colors (We used blue, gold, pink, red, and silver.)

non-toxic glue

construction paper

scissors

You can get all of these supplies at your local Dollar Tree! Our construction paper, though, came from Target.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR KIDS’ 4TH OF JULY CRAFT:

1. Fold the paper plate in half and make a 1/4 cut into the center of the fold. Then open the paper plate to start cutting around the paper plate to make a circular wreath shape.

I used the borderline of the paper plate’s ridge as my guide. If your paper plate doesn’t have a border like this, then you can always draw a circle around the plate for the wreath shape you desire.

2. Draw stars onto blue and red construction paper. You could also use yellow and white paper to add more colorful stars.

3. Let older children cut the stars out. For my younger children, I cut the stars out for them.

4. Place a scrap paper or newspaper under the paper plate wreath. This will be used to catch all of the glitter.

5. Using the glue, have your child attach the stars around their paper plate wreath.

6. After putting all of the stars onto the paper plate, use the glue to make lines and swirls around the wreath.

7. Let your child sprinkle glitter colors onto the glue lines and swirls. When he is finished, have him hold the paper plate wreath up to gently shake off excess glitter. Any remaining glitter can be poured back into your glitter containers.

8. Your child can even add glitter to the stars if she likes.

And that’s it! Super easy and a lot of fun for the kids. My kids favorite part about making this 4th of July craft was using the glitter. They ended up using two containers of glitter, but it’s okay because I had bought two packs of glitter at the Dollar Tree. Plus, I poured the excess glitter back into the empty containers.
