Light Up Beacon Park in Downtown Detroit is a must-see holiday attraction! If you’re looking for holiday lights in Detroit, add this city park to your list.

Going to see holiday lights in Detroit is always a favorite holiday activity my kids love to do.

It’s become another treasured family tradition of ours to go to community events, see city light displays, or drive through neighborhoods that have festive holiday lights.

One holiday activity the kids enjoy is going to see Light Up Beacon Park in Downtown Detroit.

Last weekend, I thought it’d be fun to take Zhen to see the new holiday lights in Detroit featured at Beacon Park. (We’re going to go again with the whole family soon.)

This year’s theme is Northern Lights, so there are different light displays from last year.

I do miss the gingerbread house and big cup of cocoa light displays Beacon Park had up in previous years, but it was nice to see a new set of light installations at the city park!

It seemed like the crowd-favorite was the 15- foot snow globe. People would line up to get a turn to sit inside of the snow globe and take pictures. I loved how the lights changed colors from purple to blue and to white.

WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOU GO TO LIGHT UP BEACON PARK IN DETROIT

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Light Up Beacon Park is a free event that is open to the public. It opens the same day as the Detroit Tree Lighting event and closes in the middle of January (Nov. 17, 2023, to Jan. 16, 2023).

PARK DAYS & HOURS

Beacon Park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES & MUSIC

There are various scheduled activities that will be held at the park (like Winter Celebrations with the DSO), so make sure you check their Instagram or website for upcoming events.

DOG-FRIENDLY!

The park is dog-friendly if you’d like to bring your pup(s)! I saw a few people with walking their dogs at the park.

HEATED TENT AVAILABLE

A (BIG) heated tent is on-site (with chairs and tables) for warming up, enjoying a meal or snack you brought with you (we had Supino’s pizza), and a small bar if you’d like to order drinks for the grown-ups or hot cocoa for the kids.

DINE AT LUMEN DETROIT

Lumen Detroit is also open for business. They have Private Chalets for heated dining on the patio, too!

Reservations for the Private Chalets can be made here.

STREET PARKING

Street parking is available. However, because the holiday season is a busy time of year at Beacon Park, it may be challenging to find parking close by.

Because it was cold out when we went, I circled around the block a few times to find closer parking.

If you don’t want to drive around and around looking like a weirdo like me (haha), then there are paid parking lots in the area. You could also park at parking garage and take the city bus to the park.

We had the best time at Beacon Park and viewing the holiday lights. I can’t wait to go again with all of my kids. I know they’re going to love it!

Have so much fun if you decide to go! xoxo
