Tomorrow is Super Tuesday in our state of Michigan, as well as Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, and Washington. Are you planning on voting?

We all have a candidate and national/local issues that are important to us so this is not a post to advocate for a particular candidate. Instead, I thought I’d share a few reasons why voting is important to me.

6 Reasons to Vote This Super Tuesday

I vote because I want my voice to be heard.
I vote because I want to contribute to my community, state, and country.

I vote because as an African American woman, I want to exercise my right to vote. There were many people before me who were oppressed (my ancestors/family members included), and there were many people who fought hard for my right to vote.

I vote because I want to lead by example for my children so they, too, will let their voices be heard when they are adults.

Right now, I have one child who is a registered voter. Elijah is 19 and he strongly believes in voting. My second oldest, Michala, turns 18 in two weeks so she’ll be able to vote in the 2020 presidential election.

We’ve been having ongoing conversations about voting and why it’s important to research candidates and new policies that will be on the ballot. So I also vote for my daughter so she sees me put my words into action by casting my vote for a candidate and issues that are important to me.
