Slow Roll Detroit Opening Day 2017

I attended my first Slow Roll Detroit event. I didn’t participate in it, though, because of my pregnancy. But I did enjoy watching the bikers on Opening Day!

Thousands of Detroiters and people across the metro area sign up every year to participate in the famous city bike ride. According to Slow Roll’s official website, over 12,000 people registered for the 2016 Slow Roll season.

What is Slow Roll?

2017 marks Slow Roll’s seventh year! Isn’t that amazing? So what is Slow Roll, you ask?

It is a 25-week bike ride which meets on Mondays and circulates through various neighborhoods throughout the city of Detroit. The nonprofit organization brings many people together and educates them about the city of Detroit. It’s a great way to connect with the community and help build a stronger Detroit.

Monday, May 1, 2017, was opening day for Slow Roll and we attended the opening day festivities! The opening day event was held at Eastern Market and hundreds of people participated in the event. It was amazing to see so many people excited about the Slow Roll. Bike groups, friends, family, and other bike enthusiasts participated in the opening day, Slow Roll.

The kids and I loved seeing so many smiling faces at the event, and the customized bikes were quite a sight to see! I  arrived early at Opening Day so I could find good parking. I wanted to park near the starting line since I’m pregnant and don’t like to walk long distances.

While we waited for the event to begin, the kids and I grabbed a quick bite to eat. There were food vendors on site selling delicious food such as artisan sandwiches and tacos. Elijah and I ordered a chicken sandwich from Hero Or Villain. If you’re ever in Detroit and spot their truck, go get yourself one of their artisan sandwiches. They are SO good!

Ruckus Taco Co. was on site at the Slow Roll Detroit Opening Day event.
