About Chef Pamela Crites, The Kitchen Gnome
Pamela Crites is a health and wellness-oriented personal chef. She offers a creative and healthy perspective to a variety of cuisines and products. She believes that eating food is a basic, hedonistic pleasure that demands good, simple ingredients to nourish both body and soul. Sometimes the simplest foods are the most delicious.
Pam is originally from Livonia, MI where she got her start in the hospitality industry over 10 years ago. After attending Schoolcraft College for culinary arts she moved out west. Pam worked in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks for two years then relocated to Vail, Colorado. There she worked at one of Colorado’s most popular restaurants, Mountain Standard.
After Pam’s time at Mountain Standard, she was a personal chef for three years for professional athletes and high-end clients. She also managed a catering business, two restaurants, and a food truck. During the off seasons for the resort, she and her husband traveled around the world, visiting 15 countries throughout Europe and Asia.
Pam recently moved back to Detroit to be a part of the changing and growing city. She is currently pursuing a certification in health coaching from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City as part of a bachelors degree in health arts and sciences from Goddard College in Vermont.

About Sommelier Joey Lopaka
Growing up in Hawaii, Joey spent much of his childhood in the hospitality world, most frequently as a guest in one of his grandfather’s hotels. He was often allowed sips of wine at the dinner table, his family unaware that a gesture probably meant to calm and quiet him could be a catalyst for a career.
Joey has been a sommelier for over 15 years, working in New York, Seattle, Park City, Aspen, Vail, and now Detroit. He holds the Advanced level certification with the Court of Master Sommeliers and plans to take the Master Sommelier exam in 2018.
