Happy Thursday! How has your week been going? It’s been a busy week for me. A lot of running around with the kids, errands to take care of, work piling up on my desk, and not much sleeping going on because, you know, #newbornlife. But nevertheless, I’m working hard to get ish done and keeping a smile on my face. 🙂
Today, I thought I’d share a throwback post to when I took the kids to 2017 Youth Day (Saturday, 9/30/17) at the Michigan Science Center.
Did you take your kids to Youth Day? I saw a lot of families participating in the different design stations. The event was part of the Detroit Design Festival’s month-long celebration of design and creativity in the City of Detroit.
I took way too many pictures of the kids. I couldn’t help myself; they were having so much fun and I love capturing candid moments of my kids when they are happy and busy enjoying life. Michala (15) calls me a “mamarazzi” because I take my camera with me everywhere and I am always snapping photos.
(I didn’t bring the baby to the event because I knew we’d be out for a while and he was still too young to be out for a long period of time.)
The kids were SO excited to attend Youth Day. As soon as we walked into the science center, they were ready to take off and start exploring!
Natural Hair Emojis
We started off with the natural hair emoji station. Sherrie Savage of Naturally ILLustrated Brand Events created the emojis. You can check out her official Instagram page HERE.
Side note: I wish I had natural hair emojis on my cell phone!
Designing Cards
Zhen found another coloring station and was eager to design her own color card.
I let the teens take Zechariah to explore the other Youth Day stations since he didn’t want to make a color card. I stayed with Zhen and helped her with her design. Actually, it was more like I guided her because she got the hang of it and wanted to do it herself. 🙂
Exploring the Michigan Science Center
After the kids explored the Youth Day activities, I let them explore the science center exhibits. They were having so much fun that we ended up staying until close! I was really surprised how much my teens liked the science center.
Honestly, I was nervous the teens would think it was boring, but as soon as they saw the inside of the science center, they were excited to check out the exhibits.
Here are some more photographs of our time at the Michigan Science Center.
