What are the holidays without ?
Last year, we started a new family, Christmas tradition: getting the kids matching Christmas pajamas. They loved it so much and their matching PJs made great holiday pictures!
This year, we’re going to continue our beloved holiday tradition, and this time Travis and I will get matching Christmas PJs, too. 😉

GET YOUR MATCHING CHRISTMAS PAJAMAS EARLY!
One thing I have learned about shopping for matching holiday pajamas is you have to grab them while you can.
Sure, you may be able to find Christmas pajamas later in December, but you may not be able to find a matching set for the whole family.
That’s what happened to us last year. I waited until mid-December to get the kids’ their matching PJs, and when I tried to find a complete family set, all of the stores we went to were either sold out or we couldn’t find our sizes.
Lesson learned! So we’re starting our holiday shopping for matching Christmas pajamas early this year.
TIP: GET YOUR MATCHING CHRISTMAS PAJAMA SETS EARLY IF YOU CAN! THEY GO FAST AND CAN BE HARD TO FIND FOR ALL MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY.

HOLIDAY PAJAMAS PHOTO TIPS
It’s easy to create adorable holiday photos of your kids in their festive Christmas pajamas! Here are a few tips I learned from our first DIY holiday photoshoot last year.
1. USE HOLIDAY DECOR FOR PHOTO PROPS. Include holiday props in your DIY holiday photos. You can use holiday decor that you already have at home.
If you need something quick, however, then you can get holiday decor at Dollar Tree!
2. NATURAL LIGHTING MAKES GREAT DIY PHOTOS. More than likely it’s going to be too cold outside to take photos of your kids. Plus, they’re going to be wearing their PJs so it’s best to take their picture indoors.
Make sure you take photos in a room that has good lighting. We chose our bedroom because it has the best lighting during the day.

3. CAPTURE CANDID MOMENTS. Posed photos can be really nice, but the best pictures you can take of your children are when they are active and enjoying themselves.
You can include holiday games or other fun holiday activities for your kids to enjoy during your photo session. Kids can open holiday-wrapped boxes, too.
Don’t worry about saying “cheese” or “look up here at the camera.” The key is to capture your children in a natural state, laughing together, and having a good time!
And sometimes you may even capture your kids doing something cute. In the photo below, I got very lucky and caught Zephaniah giving baby Zaya a kiss on her forehead!

4. USE A TRIPOD FOR GROUP PHOTOS. Eh hem– Parents! We also seem to forget to include ourselves in photographs, don’t we?
Trust me– years from now when your little ones are older, you will be so glad that you captured photographs of yourself with your babies.
You can use a tripod and set it on a self-timer so that way you’re included in a few photos, too!
Don’t have a camera or tripod? Try using your cellphone and a flexible phone tripod. I bought two phone tripods and they work great for selfies, video recording, and self-timer photos. You’ll just need to place your phone tripod on top of a stack of books or another object that is at the height you need it.

5. BE PATIENT. When we did our DIY Christmas pajamas photo shoot, the kids were jumping around and they wouldn’t sit still at first.
More than likely, the same will happen with your little ones, too. 🙂
Just stay calm. Turn on their favorite holiday music. Take short breaks often. And get them a few snacks to munch on when they take a break.
The photos don’t have to be perfect and it’s all about capturing special memories. If you are tense or get frustrated, then your kids will pick up on it, and then they won’t want to participate anymore. 🙁
