This weekend is packed with more exciting events, including the DREAM Street Fair and a new art exhibit at Norwest Art Gallery! Here are five Detroit events that you should check out this weekend.
TOP FIVE THINGS TO DO IN DETROIT THIS WEEKEND (AUGUST 11 – 13)
1. Charivari Detroit Music Festival
Celebrating its 10th year, the Charivari Detroit Music Festival will be held at the Historic Fort Wayne military fort. The event includes a massive lineup of DJs and music artists such as DJ Minx, Detroit Techno Militia, Aboudi Issa, Julius the Mad Thinker, DJ Nola, Gruv Detroit, and Karizma just to name a few!
This is a ticketed event, and tickets start at $30 for Friday’s festivities going up to $100.

Time: 6p – 11p (Friday), 2p – 11p (Saturday – Sunday)

2. Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival
The 7th annual Kimmie Horne Jazz Festival will be on Friday (6p – 10:30p) and Saturday (3p – 10:30p) on the front lawn of the Southfield Municipal Campus in Southfield.
There will be live music, food trucks, and boutique vendors. The Fitness Hoopers will also have a bike cruise during the festival. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged for the event.
This is a free event. However, for $10, you can park your cars on the Southfield Municipal Campus. The proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Southfield Public Arts.

3. The DREAM Street Fair
The DREAM Street Fair is a family-friendly event that will feature live musical performances, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, local vendors, and activities for all ages.
There will be community services available at the street fair such as free health assessments and diet and nutrition consultations. The HUDA Clinic will also be on-site offering free dental screenings, health assessments, and free follow-up appointments.
HUDA Urban Garden will offer workshops on gardening, how to pick/eat fruits and vegetables, and creative ways to make healthy (and tasty) meals and snacks.
For theatre lovers, the Detroit Repertory Theatre will host a children’s play and a theatre estate sale selling furniture, jewelry, costumes, and more!

4. Norwest Art Gallery: Oshun Williams’ Window Pain Art Exhibition Opening Reception
The opening reception of Detroit artist Oshun Williams’ art exhibition “Window Pain” will feature artwork that illustrates “the adversities of living life as a Black male through the systemic structures in America.”
Additionally, Oshun will host an artist talk, moderated by David Mays on Saturday, at the Norwest Art Gallery August 19th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

5. Fleatroit Junk City
Fleatroit will be this Sunday at the Garden Bowl with setup staged throughout the Garden Bowl and Majestic Lounge.
Vendors will be selling handmade goods, jewelry, plants, vintage clothing and housewares, and more. There will also be live DJs, a mimosa bar, bowling, and pizza.

BONUS EVENT: 4th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway Event hosted by Mommy & Me Caring Hands
This community event will feature live performances, activities for the family, resource vendors, and free backpacks and school supplies.
Special guests include Detroit Police Recruitment Officer Williams, President of the Detroit City Council Mary Sheffield, and Detroit Fire Department Chief James Harris.
