It’s another spooky weekend! I also found for you two wonderful events that celebrate culture and traditions. Which event are you hoping to attend this weekend?

Phantom’s Paradise: The House of Nightmares 313 Halloween Affair | $10 – $40

Date: Friday, Oct. 27th

Time: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. (for the kids) and 9 p.m. – 2 a.m. (for the grownups)

Place: 16544 Inverness St., Detroit

Event Summary: The House of Dreams 313 is hosting a Halloween event for both adults and children.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., kids can enjoy games, activities, and a kid-friendly haunted house. The grownups’ fun begins at 9 p.m. with a haunted house and more spooky activities.

Kids admission is $10, and adult admission is $20. VIP admission costs $40. There will also be a costume contest.

Nightmare Before Christmas Movie Night at Beacon Park | Free

Date: Friday, Oct. 27th and Saturday, Oct. 28th

Time: 6 p.m.

Place: Beacon Park, Downtown Detroit

Event Summary: It’s the 30th anniversary of The Nightmare Before Christmas! Celebrate the occasion at Beacon Park’s movie night on Friday or Saturday.

This event is free, and a heating tent is available. Available for purchase will also be a popcorn vendor and craft beer, cocktails, mocktails from Lumen Detroit.


Parker’s Alley Boo Bash | Free

Date: Saturday, Oct. 28th

Time: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Place: Parker’s Alley | 1435 Farmers St., Downtown Detroit

Event Summary: Returning for another spooky fun event, Parker’s Alley is hosting their annual Boo Bash in Downtown Detroit! This event is family-friendly and will include trick or treating from select businesses.

There will also be creepy crafts, face painting, balloon art, stilt walkers, live artwork, and more.


My Natural Hair Show 2023 (Presented by Detroit is Different) | $30 – $40

Date: Saturday, Oct. 28th

Time: 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Place: Andy Arts Center | 3000 Fenkell Avenue, Detroit

Event Summary: Detroit podcast and community network Detroit is Different is hosting a natural hair show event this Saturday.

My Natural Hair Show 2023 will take place at the Andy Arts Center in Detroit, and Detroit poet Joel Fluent Greene will host the two-hour event.

Celebrating Black authenticity and empowerment, My Natural Hair Show will feature a curated collection of stylists showcasing their creative hair designs. Tickets are $30 for one and $40 for two tickets.

Time: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Place: Robert C. Valade Park | 2670 Atwater, Detroit

Event Summary: Celebrate Día de Los Muertos at Valade Park at the Detroit Riverfront!

The event will include children’s storytelling (11 a.m. – 12 p.m.), live music by Adel Ruelas featuring Luna (12 p.m. – 1 p.m.), Tacos Del Barrio food truck (all throughout the event), and a dance performance by Ballet Folklórico Moyocoyani Izel (1 p.m. – 2 p.m.).

There will also be a community ofrenda and guests are invited to leave a name or message to honor their loved one.
