Happy Friday, friends! How was your week?

I am wiped! Yesterday morning we got up very early to take the kids to the Thanksgiving parade.

We didn’t get back home until around 2 p.m. Just that event alone was plenty for me.

When we got home, I didn’t want to do anything but sleep! I didn’t even feel like eating. Haha (But I did, especially the yummy dessert we had!)

One of the things I love about the holidays is the day after when things are a little slow at my house (to the kids, though, they say it’s “boring” haha).

I get the chance to rest and stay in my favorite oversized hoodie and sweatpants. In fact, I can’t wait until our Christmas break so I can take even more time to rest. I definitely need it.

WE all need it.

AN ENCOURAGING QUOTE ABOUT RESTING IN THE WINTER

I saw this Instagram reel by @scienceofessentials encouraging people to reflect on following nature’s example of resting in the winter.

The content creator shared trees take half the year off, bears hibernate in winter, and:

“…not everything in nature needs to be running on a capitalistic schedule. So, you can take a break. You can rest because you need to. You are part of nature just like the trees.”

@scienceofessentials

Oh, so very true.

A FUNNY MEME: SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE DESPACITO WILL BE PLAYING ON COMMERCIALS WHEN WE’RE IN OUR 50S & 60S

funny meme

I mean, they’re already playing T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent in commercials and at the grocery store! Haha!

MUSIC I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO LATELY

I just discovered Americana Folk artist J.S. Ondara, known professionally as Ondara.

Early this year, I started listening to more Americana music, particularly Black music artists, and Ondara was recommended to me on my Spotify.

I love Ondara’s sound! So far, I love these songs:

  • “Lebanon”
  • “An Alien In Minneapolis”
  • “American Dream”
  • “Revolution Blues”

If you love folk music, I highly recommend you check out Ondara. Check out this NPR article here about Ondara, which also features a video of him performing live.

HAPPY 43RD BIRTHDAY TO ME!

On Tuesday, I celebrated my 43rd birthday.

I didn’t go anywhere for my birthday or anything like that. It was a chill birthday celebration. Just stayed home, did some work, creative writing, and sipped my favorite herbal tea while watching my show.

Travis bought me a red rose, chocolate cupcake, and grilled a steak for me.

The kids made me homemade birthday cards (the best!). I talked to my mom on the phone and enjoyed my time at home.

Oh! And my oldest son and mom gifted me some birthday money. I’m saving up for my 13th tattoo, so I was excited about the monetary gift!

To some, that may sound boring for a 43rd birthday celebration, but for me it was perfect.

As I mentioned above, I’m ready for the slow season aka holiday break and winter.

My body and mind are ready for rest. So, a not so busy day on my birthday is quite alright with me!

Hope you have a good weekend and you’re able to take some time to slow down. xoxo
